How To Set Goals For 2021

LISTEN TO US:

The beginning of the new year brings the opportunity for entrepreneurs to set new goals for their business and for their personal life. It’s hard to know where you want to go and to be able to keep track of how your business is doing if you don’t have a specific direction you’re going in and benchmarks in place to measure.

Today we are sharing how we set our goals each year. By using these tips, we are confident you can set some pretty aggressive but achievable goals for 2021 and beyond.

  1. Look at your present state--The first step is to do an audit of what is going on in your business. Figure out where your revenue comes from, how big your network is, how many products you have, etc... You have to know where you are so you can figure out where you need to go.
  2. Figure out what you want--It may be hard at times to figure out what it is you actually want to achieve, but it is definitely imperative that you do. A lot of times we let fear get in our way of dreaming and planning. Ideas may come to you when you are on a walk or when you’re in the shower or maybe even when you’re having some down time. Give yourself the time and space to think about what you want.
  3. Define your goals--What are your goals for this year? You need to write them down, say them out loud, and commit to what you want. It is important to make them specific so you can measure them.
  4. Map out the goals to the resources you have--After you have figured out what you want and what your specific goals are, it is time to take stock of what resources you have and what you will need. As entrepreneurs it is important that you only see what you want and how to get there, don’t focus on the things that are in the way. If you have something blocking your way to a goal, figure out a way around it.
  5. Work backwards--What we typically do is we look at the end goal and work backwards to see everything we will need to do to get there.
  6. Don’t look at people who are already at the finish line--It is not productive to compare yourself to other people, especially because most times you are only seeing the best of other people’s lives. You aren’t seeing the struggles they go through. Focus on your goals and dreams and get the support you need to achieve those. Be self aware and catch yourself in those weak moments when you start to pay too much attention to what other people are doing.
  7. Keep track of benchmarks on a consistent basis--You should set monthly and annual goals to keep track of how you are doing. These benchmarks help you to measure how well you are doing and how far you have to go to reach your goals. They help you get a better sense of how you are performing. Checking in on them consistently can help you adjust your goals or strategies if you need to.
